Abstract

PURPOSE:To form an extremely uniform refractory coating layer on the inside surface of metallic mold by spraying a coating material in the form of slurry through a spray pipe moving in a guide pipe penetrating in said mold. CONSTITUTION:Stands 5, 5 supporting a thin walled guide pipe 7 which penetrates through a cylindrical metallic mold 1 and has a notched and split part 6 are provided on both outer sides of said mold 1 which rotates while supported in guide grooves 3, 3 by parallel rollers 4, 4. A spray pipe 8 provided with a spray nozzle 9 at the leading end is mounted freely movably in this pipe 7. Further, a drawing guide 15 is provided to one of the stands 5 at the extension of said pipe 7. Clay or the like is added as a binder to silica sand or diatomaceous earth, and water is added to this to make slurry. While this slurry is sprayed from the nozzle 9 together with compressed air, the pipe 8 is moved in the pipe 7m whereby a refractory coating layer 12 is formed on the inside wall of the metal mold 1 which is preheated to about 100-350 deg.C and keeps revolving.
