Abstract
PURPOSE:To control the tension applied to a shell with high precision, by detecting the tensions applied to a mandrel and stand respectively and obtaining the friction coefficient during the rolling and the contact force between the mandrel and the shell after the rolling quantitatively. CONSTITUTION:The tension applied to a mandrel 11 is detected by a mandrel tension detector 14, and at the same time the tension applied to a stand is detected by stand tension detectors 15-1-15-n respectively. Furthermore the rolling load is detected by rolling load detecting load cells 10-1-10-n, and the rolling torque is calculated by a computer 17 and from the voltage and current of motors 19-1-19-n plus the output values of revolving speed detectors 16-1-16-n. The friction coefficient is calculated and stored by the computer 17 from those values of detection. Then the rotational frequency of motors 19-1-19-n is controlled via speed controllers 18-1-18-n in order to set the tension of a shell 12 between stands at a prescribed value.
