Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the heat generation and the proliferation of aerobic bacteria in a silo and prevent the lowering of silage quality, by feeding CO2 gas into the silo through the discharge hole after the discharge of silage, thereby keeping the remaining silage from contacting with air.
CONSTITUTION: The necessary amount of silage 9 is taken out through the upper discharge hole 7 or the lower discharge hole 8 of the silo 1. After the discharge of silage, CO2 gas is introduced into the silo through the piping 3a, 3b and 3c to keep the silage 9 in the silo 1 from contacting with air. The CO2 may be supplied in the form of liquid or gas. The liquid CO2 is supplied directly from the CO2 reservior to the silo 1 bypassing the CO2 gas evaporator 4, and in the case of supplying gassified CO2, it is supplied through the evaporator 4.
