Abstract
PURPOSE: To completely remove low temperature ethylene by using a palladium chloride which is carried by an active carbon obtained by activating a carbonaceous material under a specific condition and using carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas containing a limited amount of oxygen and hydrogen.
CONSTITUTION: A carbonaceous material such as shell coal or coal is activated to about a specific surface area of 500m2/g or higher at 50°C, using nitrogen gas, carbon dioxide gas, or mixed gas of both, containing oxygen less than 3%, hydrogen and steam less than 15%. Said material is cooled to 300°C or below under the same atmosphere and then is taken outside. The obtained active carbon is used to carry 0.1W10wt% of palladium chloride. The active carbon provided in this manner has an effect to quickly oxidize ethylene, which is an oxidizable gas, and is effective in removing ehtylene, in cooperating with added palladium chloride.
