Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent local overheating under acceleration, by controlling the rotational frequency of a water pump on the basis of the outputs of sensors which detect the temperature and acceleration of an engine, to increase the rotational frequency of the pump under the acceleration. CONSTITUTION:The water pump 7 of an engine 1 is driven with a belt 10 by an electric motor 11 regulated by a controller 9 which receives the outputs of a temperature sensor 12 and an acceleration sensor 13. The controller 9 calculates some rotational frequency for the electric motor 11 on the basis of the engine temperature signal of the temperature sensor 12. A compensation value corresponding to the degree of acceleration of the engine 1 is determined by a compensation circuit and added to the calculated rotational frequency to control an output current for the motor 11. This results in avoiding the unnecessary drive of the water pump 7 and in preventing local overheating under the acceleration.
