Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to maintain at all times the favorable engine cooling characteristics in response to the change of the concentration of antifreezing solution in the cooling water of the engine by a metod wherein the rotational frequency of the water pump is increased when the concentration of the antifreezing solution is high. CONSTITUTION:The water pump 2 driven through a belt drive mechanism 12 by means of a motor 11 independently from the engine 1 so as to realize the variable speed ratio of the water pump to the rotation of the engine 1. The motor 11 is controlled by means of a controlling device 13. The cooling water temperature detected with a water temperature sensor 14 and the concentration of the antifreezing solution in the cooling water detected with a concentration sensor for the antifreezing solution 15 are inputted to the controlling device 13. A processing circuit 18 outputs a correcting signal by receiving the detection signal from the concentration sensor for the antifreezing solution 15. An output signal from an output current calculating circuit 17, after being corrected by said correcting signal from the processing circuit 18, controls the field current of a motor 11 by means of a current controlling circuit 20 in order to properly control the rotational frequency of the water pump 2.
