Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove scales effectively in a short time by giving a strip tension and bending by vertically asymmetric work rolls of different diameter before pickling the strip. CONSTITUTION:A strip S of hot rolled coil 11 enters a rolling mill 4 provided with vertically asymmetric work rolls of different diameter and subjected to tension and bending action on the upper and lower faces. This rolling mill 4 consists of a work roll 5 of small diameter backed up by backup rolls 7, 7, and a work roll 6 of large diameter provided opposite to the work roll 5. Accordingly, large bending force acts on the strip S and cracking effect on scales of surface layer is increased. Then, the strip is subjected to tension and bending action in the second rolling mill 4' equipped with vertically asymmetric work rolls of different diameter. Arrangement of a small diameter work roll 5' including back-up rolls is reverse of the first rolling mill 4. Pickling is made in a pickling tank in a state that crack generation of scales is increased by the rolling mill 4'.
