Abstract
PURPOSE: To uniformly descale a steel sheet, and to improve the efficiency of the descaling work, by applying a light reducing cold rolling process to a hot rolled steel sheet, applying an acid solution to the surface of the steel sheet, leaving as it is for a short while, and then, passing the steel sheet through a brushing roll.
CONSTITUTION: A hot rolled steel sheet 2 uncoiled from an uncoiler 1 is subjected to a cold rolling process with a light draft percentage practiced by a rolling mill 3; hereby, fine cracks are generated in the scale covering the surface of the steel sheet. This crack formation may be practiced by a cold processing machine instead of the rolling mill 3, or by a combination of the rolling mill 3 and the cold processing machine. An acid solution is applied to the surface of the steel sheet by an acid applicator 4, the steel is then left as it is for a short while in order to permit the acid solution to penetrate through the cracks into the boundary plane between the base metal and the scale. The unreacted acid remaining on the surface of the steel sheet is removed by a lingua roll 5; the steel sheet is then washed with water, and is passed through a mechanical descaler 8 equipped with a brushing roll 6 made of wire brushes, etc., and a backup roll 7; hereby, the steel sheet is freed from the scale and is coiled by a coiler 9.
