Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the descaling efficiency, and to improve the surface condition of the steel strip, by jetting the descaling material against the hot rolled steel strip being given a specified elongation by rotation of a pair of adjoining rolls of the rolling mill in respectively inverse directions at different circumferential velocities.
CONSTITUTION: The PV mill 1 is installed; in which, a pair of adjoining work rolls 4a, 4b, are rotated in inverse directions at different circumferential velocities, the ratio between circumferential velocities of rolls 4a, 4b, is approximately equalized to the ratio between thicknesses of the steel strip 2 before and after the rolling work, and besides, the roll speed on the high speed side is approxi-mately equalized to the strip speed on the exit side of the mill. The strip 2 is rolled by this mill 1 under the dry condition to give an elongation 2W8%; hereafter, the descaling material is jetted by the jetter 3 for descaling the strip 2; hereby, the time required by descaling work can be greatly shortened. Moreover, since the scale is placed under a condition ready to leave, the jetting angle can be reduced in order to keep good the surface condition of the strip 2.
