Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture an electrical contact material with superior hardly arc dissipative property by press-molding WC powder, graphite powder, Cr or Cr-Fe powder and Cu powder and sintering the molded body in a reducing gaseous flow.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture consisting of, by weight, 20W70% WC powder, 1W 7% graphite powder, 0.1W1% Cr or Cr-Fe powder and the balance Cu powder is press-molded, and the molded body is sintered by heating at 1,100W 1,300°C in a reducing gaseous flow ro form chromium carbide layers on the surfaces of the graphite particles. Thus, Cu-WC-graphite type electrical contact material with superior hardly arc dissipative property is manufactured.
