Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure an output voltage characteristic and a response property of an oxygen sensor element accurately, by integrating measured signal from the oxygen sensor element and measuring a mean level and the frequency of variations of an integral direction of this integral signal. CONSTITUTION:When a control valve 24 is shut and excess fuel is burnt with air in a combustion room 21 and then, burnt waste gas is flowed into a discharge pipe 26, a high output voltage Vs corresponding to the concentration of oxygen in the waste gas is outputted by an oxygen sensor element 1. This voltage Vs is passed through a comparison circuit 27 and is integrated by an integral signal generator 28 and then, is inputted into a comparison circuit 31. A comparison signal forming e.g. 40Hz triangle wave, is inputted into another input of the circuit 31 and when the integral signal exceeds this comparison signal, an output signal for driving the valve 24 is generated from the circuit 31. A characteristic of output voltage of the element 1 is discriminated and its response propety is tested by measuring a mean level and frequency of variations of an integral direction of this integral signal by a mean value circuit 34.
