Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve cycling performance by placing a separator having rib type projections which press a mat of an active material filling portion of a positive electrode, between positive and negative plates. CONSTITUTION:A positive plate 6 is formed in such a way that a lead substrate for a current collector and a synthetic resin body forming an outer frame are joined in one body to form a grid, and a lead oxide active material is filled therein, and its both surfaces are covered with mat bodies such as woven material, thereafter mat bodies are melt-bonded to above mentioned synthetic resin body to form one body. The positive plate 6 is put between negative plates 9 with a separator 8 interposed, and they are accommodated as a plate group under pressurized condition into a battery container. A rib type projection 7 is formed in the separator 8 in such a position that the projection 7 makes contact with only a place where a positive active material is held by mat bodies, except the synthetic resin body deposited on the positive plate 6.
