Abstract

PURPOSE:To control patrol operation with simple configuration without separation from the normal operation of a main memory by executing error correction and storing the corrected data in the memory when the main memory is accessed by a normal fetch mode. CONSTITUTION:When an access request is selected by a priority circuit 5, a pipe line 3 is started. At a fetch mode, address information is sent to a main memory 1 through an address checking circuit 6 and a register 7 and the fetched data are set to a register 10 and inputted to an ECC circuit 2. When an error is detected in the ECC circuit 2, the corrected data are sent to a patrol requesting part and a failing storage address on the pipeline 3 is set up in a failing storage address register 11. The patrol requesting part 14 inputs the set address again in the circuit 5 inorder to execute the patrol processing and the pipeline 3 is started by gioing the highest priority to the access processing. When the circuit 2 detectes another error again, the error is corrected and the corrected data is stored in the main memory 1 through a register 8.
