Abstract
PURPOSE: The titled device with excellent visual angle characteristics and response, drivable by a low voltage, which is prepared by filling a cell of a twist-nematic type liquid crystal display device with a specified nematic liquid crystal.
CONSTITUTION: The cell of a twist-nematic type liquid crystal display device is filled with a nematic liquid crystal composition having threshold voltage ≤2V, a value of the formula (wherein ε∥ is dielectric constant in the direction of the long axis of the liquid crystal molecule and ε⊥ in the direction of the short axis) ≤2, dielectric constant in the direction of the long axis of the liquid crystal molecule ≥6, difference between dielectric constant in the direction of the long axis of the liquid crystal molecule and that in the direction of the short axis ≥10 and viscosity ≤40 cps when driven, having no absorption in the visual region, such as a phenylcyclohexane-base or phenylcyclohexyl phenyl-base liquid crystal, or a liquid crystal mixture, e.g., a biphenyl-base or pyrimidine-base liquid crystal, primarily consisting of these.
