Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate an easy reprodcuction of characters at a receiving part and to attain an unmanned operation of a device, by providing a function to the device to be albe to select either the character code or the dot image data for each line in accordanc with the state of recognition of the handwritten characters. CONSTITUTION:The characters on an original (a) are optically read through a read input part 5 in a dot image and then converted into the binary electric signals to be applied to a character recognition part 6. This binary electric signal is compared with a character pattern stored in a dictionary file at the part 6 to recognize the read character pattern. When a character pattern equivalent to a line is recognized at the part 6, all characters are fed to a transmitting part 9 in the form of the character codes. In case when some characters that can not be recognized exist in a line, the dot image data is fed to the part 9 from a dot image output part 8. Then the code or the image data given from the part 9 is received at a receiving part 10. The character code and the picture signal code are separated from each other through a separating part 11 to be processed through a character pattern output part 12 and a picture signal pattern output part 13. In such way, the reproduction of characters can be facilitated.
