Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a data transfer system of high reliability by radiating fixed modulated light by intermitting the light source of a light pen converting a bar code into an electronic signal by scanning according to transferred data.
CONSTITUTION: Price-tag information printed in bar-code symbols and information from the keyboard are inputted to portable digital input device, where the signal of light pen 3 scanning on bar codes is democulated by pen interface circuit 41 and then stored in RAM44. Information from keyboard 410, on the other hand, is encoded by encoder 42 and stored in RAM44. To transfer data from the keyboard to the central information processor, CPU43 changes circuit 41 from the bar-code read mode to the transfer mode. A current through light emitting diode 32 of pen 3 is intermitted according to the transferred data and supplied to photo detecting element 46 and light emitting element 47 of data transmitter 45, thereby performing transmission control. Therefore, transmitter 45 is not connected by attaching and detaching a connector, so that data transfer of high reliability can be obtained.
