Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise the recognition accuracy and to simplify the processing, by using a map and an aerial photography jointly, and recognizing a result of recognition as much as possible regarding an area on the aerial photography. CONSTITUTION:An aerial photography data of a necessary area is read out to an area split processing part 26 from an aerial photography file 3. The processing part 26 generates a density histogram in accordance with the read-out aerial photography data, executes to split an area by a density level of a picture element, and its result is stored in a buffer memory 27. With regard to each area as a result of the area split processing stored in this memory 27, a symbol recognizing part 30 reads out a corresponding area on the map, and recognizes a symbol on the map, which is contained in its area. After the recognizable area has been recognized, the recognition processing is executed as to an unrecognized area by an area recognizing part 28. In this way, the aerial photography containing an area whose color, density, etc. are varied depending on the time of photographing is also recognized automatically with high reliability.
