Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the output of an engine, by providing a heat exchanger which functions to heat a heat medium such as water by exhaust gas and is located in an exhaust passage which connects the exhaust outlet port of the engine and the exhaust inlet port of a supercharger to each other and by using the heated medium to drive the turbine of the supercharger. CONSTITUTION:A boiler 5 is provided near the exhaust outlet port D of an engine E. Numerous exhaust gas tubes 7 provided with numerous fins 6 around the tubes are installed in the boiler 5. Exhaust gas G passed through a valve 4-7 is conducted into the tubes 7 so that water M introduced into the boiler 5 through a supply port 8 is heated and evaporated. After that, the exhaust gas is conducted to the exhaust inlet port B of a supercharger A. The steam S generated by the boiler 5 is conducted to a nozzle 13 through a pressure control chamber 11 and ejected to an exhaust turbine 2 to assist the drive thereof to increase the supercharging pressure of a blower 1. The steam S and the exhaust gas G, which are ejected to the turbine 2, are simultaneously released to the atmosphere through an exhaust passage 9.
