Abstract

The method involves producing and air/fuel mixture very rich in fuel and in re-heating it by using the heat of at least part of the exhaust gases so as optimum vaporisation of the mixture's fuel is achieved. This heated mixture is then introduced in a volume of fresh air which is larger than mixture's volume, immediately before injection into the cylinder. The ratio between fresh air and rich mixture valves may be varied according to the engines operating conditions. The ratio is typically of the order of ten. The heating is effected using adjacent pipes carrying the inlet mixture and exhaust gas.
