Abstract

PURPOSE:To start an engine, in which fluid of methanol or the like with less vaporability in a cold district is used as fuel, by partially extracting a mixture, heating the mixture through a heating device and increasing its ignitability. CONSTITUTION:A mixture passage 28 of a subcarburetor 17 is communicated by a subintake valve 112 to a subcombustion chamber 101 of an engine 100 through a riser part 15. Further a branch mixture passage 29, formed by branching from the downstream of a throttle valve 25 in a mixture passage 28, surrounds a combustion cylinder 51 to partially form a mixture heating device 50 and merges in the mixture passage 28. A selector valve 30 is set to a branch point of the mixture passage 28. Now for water temperature in the engine at not higher than about 20 deg.C, fuel and air are fed to a partial combustion chamber 53 to start combustion and operate the selector valve 30 to a fully closed state. Combustion gas in the partial combustion chamber 53 heats a wall of the combustion chamber and is jetted in the mixture passage 29 from a through hole 54a and mixed with a mixture to heat the mixture.
