Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent an extruding pipe from the generation of wall thickness deviation due to the formation of a lubricant puddle, by making an inserting quantity of glass lubricant to the bottom side of a billet smaller than that to the top side of the billet, in manufacturing a pipe from a metallic billet by hot extrusion. CONSTITUTION:A billet 3 in a container 2 is extruded into a pipe, as an extruded pipe 10, through a die 1 by a dummy block 5 aided with a stem 4 by utilizing a mandrel 6. In this case, an internally lubricating glass lubricant 9, to be inserted into an internal hole of the billet 3 previously, is controlled in quantity so as to make its quantity to be inserted to the bottom side of the billet 3 smaller than that to be inserted to the top side by using a spoon having a special internal shape, thereby preventing the formation of a puddle 9a of the glass lubricant in said hole. Thus, the generation of the wall thickness deviation (t1-t2) of the extruded pipe 10 due to the puddle 9a of the lubricant is prevented.
