Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the corrosion resistance of fins without exerting influence on the heat radiating property by manufacturing the fins with a Cu alloy prepared by adding specified amounts of Zn and Al to Cu.
CONSTITUTION: The composition of a Cu alloy used to manufacture fins is composed of, by wt., 0.3W3.0% Zn, 0.01W0.45% Al and the balance Cu with inevitable impurities. When Zn and Al are added in said ranges, the alloy is considerably superior to Cu contg. only inevitable impurities in corrosion resistance but is slightly inferior in initial heat radiating characteristics. This alloy is hardly deteriorated with the passage of days, and it bears comparison with Cu contg. only inevitable impurities. Since fins manufactured with this material requires a smaller thickness than conventional fins, the weight of a heat exchanger can be reduced.
