Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the leakage of molten steel and to perform stable operation by uniformly acting constant gaseous pressure between a mold and a horizontal nozzle for supplying molten steel. CONSTITUTION:At the same instant when molten steel 6 is charged from a horizontal nozzle 5' for supplying molten steel into a mold, an inert gas 4 is supplied under constant pressure to porous refractories 2 through the multiple air permeation pores F of respective steel tubes. The inert gas 4 goes to the interface (gap d) of the refractories 2 and the mold through the numerous fine pores of the porous refractories 2. On the other hand, whether the molten steel 6 leaks to the interface between the mold and the horizontal nozzle or not is determined by the balance between the hydrostatic pressure and gaseous pressure acting upon the molten steel 6 and the gap (d). The gap (d) between the leading end part of the nozzle 5' and the mold is regulated to 0.3-1.0mm., and the differential pressure of the pressure in the molten steel 6 and the pressure of the inert gas 4 is kept at <=0.2 atomospheric pressure.
