Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform desiliconization of molten iron with good efficiency by supplying gaseous oxygen from one of lances and a solid oxygen source fed by a slow reactive gas from the other lance, and controlling the amts. of addition thereof with progression of desiliconization.
CONSTITUTION: In a desiliconization method of injecting oxygen sources into molten iron, gaseous oxygen or mixed gases of gaseous oxygen and slow reactive gas (for example, N2, CO2, air, etc.) are blown from one of discharge ports and a slow reactive gas and a solid oxygen source from the other discharge port simultaneously within the same reaction area. With progression of desiliconization, the amts. of addition of the gaseous oxygen and the solid oxygen source are controlled and the oxygen partial pressure and the rate of oxygen supply at the leading end of tuyeres are controlled. Thereby, the desiliconization is accomplished extremely well as a pretreatment for the simultaneous desulfurization and dephosphorization of the molten metal, and the content of Si in the molten iron is controlled to about ≤0.15% content of Si.
