Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the oxidation of carbon in plate bricks in the sliding surfaces between the plate bricks by supplying an inert gas to around the holes for flowing of molten metal thereby creating an inert gaseous atmosphere in the gaps between the sliding surfaces. CONSTITUTION:Gas permeation bodies 5 are provided around the upper stationary, sliding, lower stationary plates 1, 2, 3 contg. >=1 kind of carbon, carbide, hydrocarbon, and non-oxide of, for example, a sliding nozzle device of a three pieces plate system. In order to supply gases uniformly thereto, gas sealants 7 and metal cases 8 are provided together with gas distribution channels 6 communicating with a gas introducing device from the outside. The plates are provided with holes 4 for flowing of molten metal and if an inert gas is supplied into the channels 6, the parts around the holes 4 are put in the atmosphere of said gas.
