Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve operation efficiency and reliability by arranging stages of annular magnetic heads each constituted by providing winding around the center linear parts of a couple of channel-shaped cores, butting left and right cores against each other bisymmetrically, and then inserting a magnetic gap material into the butt surface which touches a tape. CONSTITUTION:In two split cases 8 and 8' of symmetrical structure, core elements having winding 2 around each center linear part of a channel-shaped core 1 are arrayed and fixed symmetrically in parallel together with lead wires of the winding. In the cases 8 and 8', shallow long grooves 88 and 88' parallel to the butt surface are formed near the side edge of the surface of a magnetic head which touches a tape, respectively. Then, two cases 8 and 8' are butted against each other and then fixed so that those cores constitute the annular magnetic head across the magnetic gap while slightly projecting from the tape contact surface of the magnetic heads installed in the two cases 8 and 8'. The grooves 88 and 88' are used as holding parts in the stage of the parallel polishing of the surface which touches the tape, and those grooves are polished away during R-surface polishing.
