Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a polarizer by facilitating the design and manufacture of an optical system while preventing the cancellation of polarization, by providing a polarizing plate on the back surface of a condenser lens. CONSTITUTION:As an example of a Faraday effect type head, polarizing films 31, such as ''Polaroid R, H, K and L '' films, are adhered and fixed atop or right behind a condenser lens 4, and laser light 2 is projected on a magnetic body without canceling polarization. The projected light 2 is reproduced as the information of a magnetic body 24 by a photodetecting element 10 from a condenser lens 8 provided with an analyzer 32. When transmission type magnetic circular polarization bicolor characteristics are applied, a lambda/4 plate is bonded right behind the polarizing films 31 and the azimuth angle of the lambda/4 plate is set to 45 deg. to the transmission axis of the polarizing films 31. In this case, the analyzer 32 is unnecessary.
