Abstract

PURPOSE:To read a recording signal with high precision by interposing a magnetic thin film of high magnetic permeability between a magnetic recording medium and transcription film so that the film surface will nearly be at right angles to the magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:On magnetic recording medium 11 running as shown in the arrow, transcription film 12, an amorphous film based on garnet, the Gd-Co system, etc., of resistance magnetic force providing the large magnetooptical effect, is provided. Between the surface of film 12 and medium 11, magnetic thin film 13 of high magnetic permeability such as ''Permalloy '' is arranged at right angles to the surface of medium 11 while facing to the running direction of medium 11 and it is supported by nonmagnetic holder 14. The film thickness of film 13 should be set less than the wavelength of a recording signal. Thus, laser light from laser light source 15 is film 12 by way of polarizer 16, half mirror 17 and lens system 18 and its reflected light is detected by photodetector 20 via analyzer 19. Consequently, reproduction resolution can be improved by eliminating the reading interference between adjacent bit signals without reference to the beam diameter of reading laser light.
