Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize the reading of signals, by carrying out the optical recording to a vertical magnetic layer having a high coercive force and detecting the polarized angle reflected from a vertical magnetic layer having a large magneto-optical effect and a low coercive force. CONSTITUTION:The information is written in a writing layer 13 having a low Curie point and a high coercive force by the laser beam given from a light source 15 and via a half mirror 16 and a condenser lens 17. On the other hand, the laser beam is irradiated to the layer 13 through a magnetic field coil 18, and only the area having a temperature higher than the Curie point is vertically magnetized. The information recorded to the layer 13 is polarized by a polarizer 19 given from the source 15 which is less intensive than that during the recording and then made incident to a reading layer 11 having a large magneto-optical effect and a low coercive force via the mirror 16 and the lens 17. This polarized light has the rotations due to the Faraday effect and is reflected by a reflecting film 12 to receive a photoelectric conversion through the mirror 16 and a photodetector 20.
