Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deposition of dust between a magnetic detecting head and a magnet array and to improve life and reliability by arranging magnets on the inside surface of a non-magnetic pipe which follows up the ram of a die casting machine, and making said head freely slidable on the outside surface thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Magnets 12 are arranged on the inside surface of a pipe 9 of a non-magnetic substance having a smooth surface moving in follow up to the ram of a die casting machine 4, in such a way as to generate strong and weak or different polarities at a constant pitch along the moving direction. Thence, a magnetic detecting head 10 which is fixed and disposed in such a way as to contact the outside surface of the pipe 9 freely slidably and outputs electric signals by sensing the magnetism of the magnet array 12 according to the movement of the pipe 9 is provided. The displacement rate of the magnet array 12 is detected magnetically, whereby the displacement position of the ram of the machine 4 is detected. Hence, the deposition of dust between a magnetic sensor 15 and the magnet array 12 and the consequent decrease in the detection sensitivity are obviated. Further, the satisfactory measurement from low to high speeds is made possible.
