Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform optimum control of air-fuel ratio in the method of feedback controlling output from exhaust sensors, by switching the exhaust sensor and changing the overall air-fuel ratio of an engine in accordancd with its operating condition. CONSTITUTION:At steady operation of an engine 1, feedback control is performed on the basis of output from the first exhaust sensor 14a, then logical air- fuel ratio is obtained for air-fuel ratio of a mixture fed to the first cylinder group 1b, 1c, while air-fuel ratio fed to the second cylinder group 1a, 1d is reduced to a lean state by the preset value, and the overall air-fuel ratio of the engine is also reduced to a lean state to improve its fuel consumption. Further a switching circuit 15 detects an operating condition in accordance with signals of sensors 17, 18, 10 for cooling water temperature, intake negative pressure and speed, and output of the second exhaust sensor 1b is fed back to an air-fuel ratio correction circuit 16 at cold, low and high load state of the engine, then the control is performed for the second cylinder group 1a, 1d to logical air-fuel ratio while for the first cylinder group 1b, 1c to a rich state, thus output performance can be improved.
