Abstract
PURPOSE:To effectively dephosphorize molten metal (pig iron) without causing any damage to nozzle by molten metal by blowing a specific amount of CaCO3 as a dephosphorizer by oxygen gas from the nozzle. CONSTITUTION:In the dephosphorization of molten pig iron, powdered CaCO3 as a dephosphorizer is blown into the molten pig iron, together with oxygen as a carrier gas, through a dip nozzle. The amount of CaCO3 used is 10kg or more/ ton of molten pig iron and 40kg or less/kg of the P content of molten pig iron in the early period, and also the amount of oxygen as a carrier gas used is 1/9 or more of the amount of CaCO3 used. Thus, damage to the nozzle by molten pig iron can be prevented because the nozzle is cooled by endothermic reaction caused on the thermal decomposition of CaCO3 into CaO and CO2 in the molten pig iron, and also the dephosphorization reaction of the molten pig iron can be effectively advanced because P oxides can be effectively slagged by CaO following the oxidation of P by CO2.
