Abstract
PURPOSE: To stably dephosphorize molten steel with no generation of white smoke and a very little drop in the temp. by adding alkali silicate as a flux to the molten steel and blowing a gas.
CONSTITUTION: Sodium silicate consisting of ≤75% Na2O and ≥25% SiO2 or sodium metasilicate consisting of 50% Na2O and 50% SiO2 is added to molten steel as a flux for the steel by ≤ about 30kg/t. An inert gas, oxygen, CO2 or other gas contg. little imprities such as S is then blown through a lance to agitate the molten steel. Thus, the molten steel is dephosphorized at a superior dephosphorization rate with no generation of white smoke unlike the use of Na2CO3 or the like as a dephosphorizer and a little drop in the temp.
