Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect a constant voltage circuit and a load circuit when a load is short-circuited by connecting a diode between a reference voltage generating circuit and an output terminal, and stopping the operation of the constant voltage circuit by lowering a reference voltage when the output voltage of the constant voltage circuit drops below a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:A voltage drop controlling trasisitor TR1 is connected between an input terminal 8 and an output terminal 9. Further, a reference voltage generating circuit 3 which sets the level of an output terminal voltage, and a voltage comparator 2 which controls the TR1 by comparing a reference voltage obtained from the circuit 3 with a voltage proportional to the output terminal voltage are provided. Furthermore, a diode 5 is connected between the circuit 3 and the output terminal 9 and when the output terminal voltage drops below a prescribed voltage, the diode 5 turns on to set the reference voltage nearly equal to the current output terminal voltage.
