Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer, having improved absorption in the body and transfer to the taret organs, with reduced side effects, and usable as an antitumor agent, by reacting a polymer consisting of specific constituent units with a cellular toxic substance having amino and imino groups.
CONSTITUTION: A polymer consisting of constituent units of formulaI(m is an integer 1W4; n is an integer 1W6) is reacted with an oxidizing agent, e.g. NaIO4, in a solbent, e.g. dimethylformamide, to give a polymer of formula II, which is then reacted with a cellular toxic substance, e.g. 1-(β-D-arabinofuranosyl)cytosine, and a reducing agent, e.g. NaCNBH3, in a solvent to afford the aimed polymer having the constituent units of formula III having 60mol, preferably 80mol% or more, total constituent units of formulaIand constituent units of formula IV (Y is a reaction residue of amino and imino groups of the cellular toxic substance) and the ratio between the number of the units of formula IV and the total number of the units of formulasIand IV is 0.05W0.95.
