Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The alkoxytriazolyl ketone compond of formulaI(X is H or Cl; R is methyl or ethyl).
EXAMPLE: 1-( 2,4-Dichlorophenyl )-4,4-dimethyl-1-methoxy-2-( 1,2,4-triazol-1-yl )pentan-3-one.
USE: Fungicide or an intermediate for the preparation of the triazolylvinyl alcohol compound of formula II useful as an agricultural and horticultural fungicide.
PROCESS: The compond of formulaIis prepared by reacting the epoxy ketone compound of formula III with 1,2,4-triazole in methanol or ethanol in the presence of a base. The starting compound of formula III can be prepared by reacting a benzaldehyde analog with pinacolone of formula IV in the presence of a base, and oxidizing the resultant compound of formula V.
