Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an agricultural herbicide, in high efficiency, in an industrial scale, without problems inherent to the conventional process, by reacting a phenylacetimino ether compound with a benzylamine compound.
CONSTITUTION: The titled compound of formula III (R1 is H, halogen, etc.; n is 1, 2 or 3; R2 is lower alkyl; R3 and R4 are H or lower alkyl, or R3 and R4 may together form a ring; R5 is H or halogen) is prepared by reacting a phenylacetimino ether of formulaIwith a benzylamine compound of formula II in a solvent such as alcohol at 25W160°C for 6W12hr. The reaction may be carried out in an inert atmosphere.
EFFECT: The objective compound can be obtained in high yield in short steps without using a particular reaction assistant. There is no evolution of harzardous gas such as SO2, HCl, etc.
