Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate the use of a work positioning guide, thereby to prevent damage to the work and to improve the work positioning accuracy by providing an automobile roof panel transferring carrier with a vertically moving lifter having means for suction-holding the work and a work positioning jig. CONSTITUTION:The actuator 5 is operated so that an arm 13 is opened, a lifter 7 is lowered, and a vacuum cup 10 is made to stick to a work W and then the lifter 7 is raised, the arm 13 is closed, and the suction cup 10 is released so that the work W is held by a gauge 20 to determine the exact position of the work W. Next the lifter 7 is operated again to actuate the suction cup to lift the work off the gauge 20 and transfer the work W into the position where it is to be placed, where the work W is set on the car body W' by means of the lifter 7 and released from the suction cup. This system eliminates the necessity for the use of a positioning guide in the location where the work W is to be set, prevents damage to the work W, and enables the accurate positioning of the work W.
