Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent carbon leakage easily, safely in food sanitation and highly economically in activated carbon power refining in an aq. soln. system for food, etc., by depositing dissolved chitosan in a soln. contg. materials to be refined and activated carbon power.
CONSTITUTION: In an aq. soln. system contg. materials to be resined such as food, activated carbon power and chitosan are allowed to coexist, after which the chitosan is water insolubilized in said aq. soln. to flocculate the carbon powder, then it is filtered. The rate of addition of the chitosan is preferably in the range of 0.1W10wt% with respect to the active carbon power. After the addition of the chitosan, the pH of the soln. is controlled to ≥6.5. The active carbon power flocculated and settled in such conditions is flocculated to the secondary particles having acertain degrees of grain sizes by aggregating primary particle carbon and is filtered off without causing carbon leakage by using filter media of about "TOYO ROSHI NO. 5C".
