Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove or recover nonionic or cationic organocontaminants from waste liquid, by using porous clay satisfying fixed conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Powder or grains, having a diameter up to 3mm, of porous clay mineral in which the rate of pores having diameters of 0.4W20mm is 0.05ml or more per g, is prepared. The clay mineral is charged into waste liquid and mixed by agitation. Thereafter, a flocculant is added to the waste liquid, and the waste liquid is subjected to precipitation and then solid-liquid separation. Consequently, nonionic or cationic organocontaminants, e.g. cationic surfactants, nonionic surfactants or polyvinyl alcohols, are removed from the waste liquid, and purified water is obtained.
