Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform the variable density and half-tone representation of a recorded image by varying an ion beam diameter by varying a control electric field in an ion-flow passing state by using a variable control voltage source. CONSTITUTION:In the middle of a passage for an ion flow from an ion source to a back electrode, a control electrode 3 having metallic electrode layers 12 and 13 formed adhering to both the sides of an insulating plate 11 is provided to apply a control voltage from a variable control voltage source 20 between the electrode layers 12 and 13. In this case, the control voltage applied in the passing state of the ion flow is varied to >=2 different values to vary the intensity of a control electric field in the ion-flow passing state, and consequently the diameter of the ion beam is varied to control the flow rate of passing ions. Thus, a recording dot diameter after development is varied to perform variable density, and half- tone representation is facilitated.
