Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a heat-pipe shaft free from deterioration with the lapse of time and from weld defects while facilitating the manufacture thereof by forming a blank pipe for heat pipe from a cylindrical metallic pipe, in manufacturing a heat pipe shaft used for a rotary shaft of a rotary electric machine or the like. CONSTITUTION:A round metallic bar 12A is friction welded to one end of the cylindrical metallic pipe 11. Next, a round metallic bar 12B having a through- hole 13 formed along the axial direction and having a small-diameter pipe 7 welded to one end thereof in such a manner as to communicate with the through-hole 13 is friction welded to the opened end of the metallic pipe 11 by pressing against the latter, thereby producing the blank pipe 9 for heat pipe. After cleaning the interior of the heat pipe 9 via the small-diameter pipe 7, the internal pressure is reduced by evacuating the residual air and a predetermined amount of a working fluid 10 is poured into the pipe 9 through the pipe 7, followed by sealing off the pipe 7 to produce a heat-pipe shaft 6.
