Abstract

PURPOSE: To keep sealing gas good with small amount of water-soluble paper and perform the captioned welding closely fitting the funnel-form gas-sealing members composed of the water-soluble paper within piping with its weld zone as a center and filling the sealing gas in the section between the sealing materials.
CONSTITUTION: The diameter R of funnel-form gas sealing materials 1 is made approximately the same as the inside diameter of the pipe to be gas-sealed or slightly larger than the same. These sealing materials 1 are disposed within the pipes 2a, 2b centering at the weld zone, and sealing gas G is filled in the space formed by the two sealing materials 1. In the abovementioned state, welding is performed while weld metal 3 and arc are being shielded from the atmosphere by this sealing gas G. When the welding is completed, the sealing materials 1 are dissolved away by pressure water. Even if the pressure water is not used, the sealing materials readily carbonize by the heat after firing of the boiler and are flown off by the steam flow in the piping without causing seizure.
