Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the bendability, strength at high temp. and corrosion resistance of a steel pipe for a boiler tube or the like by chromizing the pipe after carburizing or nitriding. CONSTITUTION:A steel pipe as a tube for a boiler is carburized or nitrided to form carburized layers having 0.12-0.30% C concn. or nitrided layers having 0.1-0.40% N concn. on the inner and outer surfaces. The pipe is then chromized by a powder packing method to form high Cr alloy layers on the inner and outer surfaces. Since the pipe is carburized or nitrided beforehand, Cr forms hard carbide or nitride and enhances the hardness of the pipe at high temp., and the wear resistance to ash cutting, etc. at high temp. is also enhanced.
