Abstract
PURPOSE:To form an Al diffusion-coated layer with superior thermal impact resistance and corrosion resistance on the surface of an Ni or Co alloy by forming an Al diffusion-coated layer contg. a very small amount of B and by converting it into monoaluminide. CONSTITUTION:In order to form Al diffusion-coated layers with superior mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance on the surfaces of parts of a gas turbine or the like made of Ni or Co alloyk the parts are buuied in a packing material consisting of Al powder, B powder, powder of an inert refractory such as Al2O3, a halogenated activator such as NH4Cl, NH4F or NaCl, and they are heated to >=850 deg.C to form diffused layers of an intermetallic compound such as Ni2Al3 or Co2Al3 on the surfaces of the parts. At this time, the wt. ratio of B/Al in the packing material is adjusted to 0.01-0.45. The parts are then reheated to >=1.000 deg.C to convert the intermetallic compound nto NiAl or CoAl. Thus, coated layers with superior thermal impact resistance and corrosion resistance are formed.
