Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of various synthetic chemicals and oligomers, easily, in high conversion and selectivety, by oxidizing hexafluoropropylene with oxygen under high temperature and pressure without using a diluent or a solvent.
CONSTITUTION: Hexafluoropropylene oxide is prepared by oxidizing hexafluoropropylene with oxygen under pressure with heating in the absence of a diluent and solvent. Concretely, the oxidation reaction under heating conditions is carried out by pressing oxygen into a pressure reactor charged only with hexafluoropropylene without using a diluent or solvent, and repeating the introduction procedure of oxygen gas when the introduced oxygen gas has been essentially completely consumed. The oxidation reaction can be carried out in the absence of a catalyst.
EFFECT: The objective compound having a purity of almost 100% can be obtained only by distillation, without using particular separation means.
