CONSTITUTION:In a top and bottom blown converter consisting of a furnace bottom shell 1, etc., plural tuyeres 4 are disposed within an oxygen injection range 6 from a top blowing lance 8, and a sublance descending point 5 is so disposed as to be equidistant to at least two tuyeres 4-5, 4-6 near said point 5. If operations are performed with the above-mentioned converter, the total Fe in slag are reduced considerably, and the value of P2O5%/P% is increased; also, the flow deviation and collision of molten metal against the sublance is prevented, and its bending and breakage are prevented, whereby the uniformity of sampling is made sure. The effect of suppressing splashes is also high, and, for example, the frequencies for removing the base metal stuck on the furnace port are reduced to 1/2 that in the prior art.
