Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formulaI[R1 is ≥2C lower alkyl; R2 and R3 are H, alkyl, or (substituted) aralkyl; provided that R2=R3≠H].
EXAMPLE: 0,0-Diisopropyl 1-α-isopropylnaphthylmethylphosphonate.
USE: Selective herbicide esp. effective to Sida spinosa, Xanthium pennsylanicum, and Iponea purpurea.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIwherein R3 is H can be prepared by reacting the naphthylmethylphosphonic acid ester of formula II with the halide of formula III[R4 is alkyl or (substituted) aralkyl; X is halogen]in the presence of equimolar amount of a base (e.g. NaH) in an organic solvent such as ether at -70W+80°C. The starting compound of formula II can be obtained by the Arbuzov reaction, i.e. reaction of trialkyl phosphite with a halide.
