Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:1-Methyl-3-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-2-pyridone of formulaI(X is H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen).
EXAMPLE: 1-Methyl-3-phenyl-5,6-dihydro-2-pyridone.
USE: Herbicide; inhibiting the photosynthesis of true grass weeds such as barnyard grass and board leave weeds such as jointweed.
PREPARATION: The rection between 1-methyl-2-phenyl-Δ2-pyrroline of formula II and trichloroacetic acid at a molar ratio of 1:1.5W2.0 is conducted in an organic solvent such as dioxane or benzene at 15W80, preferably 20W40°C for 3W4hr to form α-trichloromethyl derivative of formula III, which is hydrolyzed in an aqueous ethanol to give the compound of formulaI.
