Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a fluororubber having remarkably improved water resistance, moisture resistance and steam resistance, and improved oil resistance and heat resistance, by carrying out the secondary vulcanization of a fluororubber in the presence of a metal oxide, etc. in an atmosphere free from carbon dioxide gas.
CONSTITUTION: A preliminarily vulcanized fluororubber is subjected to the secondary vulcanization by heating the rubber (e.g. at about 200°C) in the presence of a metal oxide (e.g. CaO) or metal hydroxide[e.g. Ca(OH)2]in an atmosphere free from carbon dioxide gas. Although Ar, He or N2 gas is preferable as the atmosphere, the vulcanization can be carried out more economically in a reactor by evacuating the reactor and charging deacidified air into the reactor.
